Yarn planning
My eyes have been on this gorgeous colourwork sweater for a while and I already decided I’m going to use yellow to achieve a bold colour combination look.
The green yarn is the DK weight cashmere from Colourmart. It’s part of the 300g set so you can’t beat the price. Very soft and it’s a pleasant to work with.
For the yellow yarn though, it took me sometime to find THE perfect yellow colour. It has to be bright yellow, not dusty or muted or cool, and has to have the same thickness. I initially decided to buy something else but the yellow yarn from Rosa Pomar Vovó caught my eye during LYS day and I immediately grabbed this instead.
Modifications
After swatching, I decided to knit a size XS to achieve the desired amount of positive ease ~5’'.
Cast on
- Cast on 102 sts instead of 86, using Italian CO
- Italian CO: US 4 for setup, and then change to US 5 for 1x1 ribbing
- In the last round of ribbing, knit a plain round instead. Skip the inc round.
Short rows
I added more short rows before the raglan increase in order to extend the neck depth to 1.75’’, which sits more comfortable on my neck.
- In the 10th of plain round, put a lifeline. The short row starts in the next row
- Prep: count 37 sts after the BOR, PM. Count 48 sts, PM. Do the same for the direction before the BOR. Now the front is 73 sts, sleeves are 48 sts, back 74 sts, total 243 sts)
- Rnd 1: Knit until 5 sts after the sleeve (total 37+48+5), turn
- Rnd 2: gsr, purl until 5 sts after the other sleeve, turn
- Rnd 3: gsr, knit until 7 sts before the previous gsr, turn
- Rnd 4: gsr, purl until 7 sts before the previous gsr, turn
- Rnd 5-6: repeat 3-4
- Rnd 7 (this will be the 11th of the plain round in the pattern): knit the whole round, close the gsr
Sleeves
- Italian bind-off in US 4
- I adjusted where I started colourwork, about 2’’ shorter than what the pattern calls for

Project timeline

- - Finish one sleeve.
- - Finish both sleeves.
- - Run out of the yellow.
- - Resume the project.
- - Bind off.
- - Block and done.
Retrospective
The fitting is great, but it’s a bit shorter to my liking. I might unravel the hem and colourwork, but the ribbing was just too perfect to be frogged 🥹 One day I’ll do it…
