Yarn, size planning and air travel
I knitted this sweater with 2 strands of mohair yarn.
I love my first Ranunculus sweater knitted with Alpaca Lin. I’ve wore it so often that the elbow is starting to wear off. I still have plenty of grey Tilia left, so even though I don’t like to revisit a pattern, I decided to make a second Ranunculus as my airplane travel project. With more than 10 hours of air travel plus layover, this would be a good project to bring along, because I don’t want to bring socks as I’m afraid the needles are too tiny and pointy and might be more likely to be confiscated.
At the end, I’ve bought this project along with me in 4 countries and 8 airports. No one ever blinked an eye about it and I’m a happy knitter on the airplane and lounge. Yay!
In terms of size, I basically use the same measurement as my first Ranunculus. I still don’t want a crazy amount of positive ease, so after some calculations of gauge and measurement, I’m going to knit a size 1.
Modifications
- Skipped raglan increase and knit a few plain round instead, as the stitch count without raglan would be enough to achieve my desired measurement.
- I also skipped the short rows in the front to get a better fit on the neckline. The fitting is better than my first Ranunculus sweater.
- Not a mod, but instead of switching to a smaller needle for the hem, I simply changed to a pair of wooden needles of US 10.
- The finished bust has appx. 17cm positive ease for me. Perfect.
