Tracery vest
Finished the front panel and the front left. I did some research and decided to use my measurement from Twist Loop Top and a steady ratio to make the end stitch matches the pattern. Here is my modifications of neck shaping for crew neck.
- I’m at row 70 before starting the neckline shaping, with a total of 87 sts. The arm hole depth length is 11cm at this point.
- Starting row 71, decrease 1 st in every RS row by the following:
- divide the stitch to three section: 31 sts (front left), 25 sts (centre), 31 sts (front right) and do not work the centre and front right section
- knit as per the chart until 3 sts remaining in the front left section, k2tog, k1. Turn the work and continue the following WS row. Repeat this for a total of 15 times. Now I have 16 sts which matches the pattern
Design thoughts
There are few things I considered:
- Decrease ratio. There are different formula for this, e.g. decrease 1st every RS round (like my Twist Loop Top thought it’s done top down), or gradually change the decrease rate by firstly k3tog, then k2tog and dec every other round, which resulting a more wider neck
- Armhole depth. This is easy to get from my other clothes, about 21.5cm/8.5inch for me
- Neck width. This is rarely mentioned but the collar should be wide enough to let the head go through. I think a suitable diameter for a crew neck is appx. 12cm or more for the opening.
- The centre stitches put on hold/bind-off. I got different numbers for this one. Some people said 1/6 stitches, but I feel that’s not enough and I got about 28.6% based on my Twist Loop Top.
