Time Traveller Socks

I’ve been practicing flicking purl with this project. Tried multiple ways of improving the speed and accuracy of purl stitch, including:

  • Change the angle slightly of holding yarn by adjust my finger position: the inspiration came from the youtube how I knit: flicking demonstration in knit, purl, and 1x1 rib. However, it feels unnatural to me.
  • Change the left needle angle when pulling out of the stitch with left hand: I’m trying to avoid putting all stress to the right hand so this idea came to my mind. I do it by using my left hand pushing down the left needle when pulling out the stitch. It works okay in terms of accuracy: the purl is less likely to fall down from the needle, but my left hand feels very uncomfortable when pushing down the needle as my hand was performing a weird downwards angle.
  • Hold the yarn tight with index finger when pulling the stitch: This works better than I thought and improves both the speed and accuracy, but it also added lots of stress to my already-tired right hand.
  • Going back to the downwards index finger trick but in a less fiddly way: Eventually I went back the the purl way I’m used to. I learned this action from Hazel Tindall, the world fastest knitter. Basically the way I’m doing right now is to have my right index finger go downwards when wrapping the purl stitch, which increase the accuracy dramatically and the stitch never fall. The only improvement I made is to do it with a smaller angle, and I was able to get hands of it very quickly! I’ll stay with this method for now.
