Tomten Jacket

  • I was planning to rework K’s sweater recently. Well, rework is probably not the right word. I will frog the item entirely and re-knit it to a coat instead of pullover. The reason is that the sweater is too warm to wear for indoor in winter, so I planned to re-purpose it to a coat.
  • This will be a huge project though. The pattern is Tomten Jacket, an adult version adapted from EZ’s pattern. Both versions are not modern patterns and require thorough understanding of the engineering, plus a bunch of modifications (or customization, whichever you want to call it). I haven’t knitted similar structure before so it’s quite hard for me to visualize it in my head (not good at spatial imagination).
  • I knitted a swatch with US 8 needle initially and I felt it’s not dense enough for a coat, so I switched to US 6 and get the right density I want. The gauge is 4 sts/inch. I’ve already calculated the sts based on the JF’s blog post and few other project notes on Ravelry. Now it’s on my needle!
