WinterWonderland Sock
- Done! I’ve unravelled the first sock and re-knit it the same way as the second one.
- Yarn left:
- WYS yarn: 62g (Can you believe that?! I only used 99-62=38g yarn! I really should buy a small skein for sock knitting next time)
- White sparkling yarn: 58g left. The total is 60+15=75g so I used 17g
- During the process, I noticed the ladder is more obvious in DPN compared to magic loop. I searched few ways to mitigate and here are the three methods I’ve tried:
- Instead of pulling tight the 1st st, give the 2nd stitch a gentle tug. I tried this and it doesn’t work very well for me (maybe I’m over compensating it) and it also takes time which irritated me.
- Change the needle setup, to make the old needle tip in the position that’s closer to me, and the needle with new stitches should be away from me. I learned this method from the book Custom Socks: Knit to Fit Your Feet. It works, but it’s extremely time consuming to adjust the needle position every time I switch the needles. It also makes knitting the first few stitches very difficult due to the uncomfortable position of the empty needle and significantly dragged down my knitting speed. Definitely don’t like it.
- Adjust the needle angle, so that the angle between three needles are perpendicular to each other. This is the YouTube video Little Lessons: Avoiding ladders on DPNs (Tip One) - YouTube. I found this method helped me a lot and it doesn’t slow me down.
