Yarn planning
I went with the safe colour option: beige. I was considering other option like mint, but the beige has the most vintage vibe so here it is. The solid yarn I chose is a wool/silk blend, while the mohair yarn is a mohair/wool/silk blend. Both contain silk, so I’m hoping for a nice drapey feel when it’s finished.
Size and modifications
I’m knitting the smallest size - one of the advantages being a hobbit, always go for the smallest available! Though I have to size up the needle after knitting the gauge. This is the first time the pattern calls for a gauge that’s looser than me, so I ended up using US 8 instead of US 6.

Figure 1: Above:US 6; Bottom: US 8
For the most part, I followed the pattern except for the following mods:
- After studying various projects photos, I chose the lowest neckline option because I felt this is the most “vintage” style.
- For the sleeves, after increase I get 81 sts and I find it works perfectly fine for me.
Project timeline
- – Cast on.
- - Finished body.
- - Finished the right sleeve.
- - Finished the left sleeve.
- - Bind off, block and done.

Retrospective
I do not recommend this pattern to any beginners who haven’t knitted garments before. The pattern’s written instruction is ambiguous and sometimes skip instructions. The first time I noticed is when it did not mention the needs to join in the round, and later on I found more.
This is a perfect example to show why it’s necessary to read through everything to understand the structure before getting started (though I often did not follow this rule). In this case, it did not completely prevent mistakes, but it helped.
